A membrane switch is a simple electrical device used to direct the flow of low voltage, low current electricity through an electrical circuit. The low current levels required by membrane switches make them particularly useful in integrated circuit applications.
The membrane switch is made from layers of flexible plastic sheets bonded together with thin adhesive sheets. The electrical circuitry is created by screen printing conductive inks on the plastic layers forming traces (that act like wires) and contact pads in the key areas.
After assembly, the membrane keypad components form an electrical device containing one or more touch switches, categorized as 4type:
1,Standard Membrane Switch Construction
2,Standard PC Board Mounted Switch Construction
3,Standard Tactile Plastic dome Construction
4,Standard Stainless Steel Dome Construction
If you need to replace mechanical switches in high voltage circuitry, switches that directly control motors, heaters, etc., additional components will be necessary to create a secondary circuit environment for the membrane switch to operate in. Further, because membrane keyboard are closed only when depressed, elec trical components like latching relays are required to maintain a closed primary circuit after activation by the The membrane switch is flexible and must be mounted on a rigid backer plate. This can be your product’s plastic or metal case, a printed circuit board, or a separate plastic or metal backer plate. The switch’s flexibility allows it to be mounted on a regular curved (not irregular curved) surfaces, within reason.
