Structure:




A polyester dome forms the tactile layer, which collapses when pressed and provides a "clicky" feedback.

Beneath the dome are printed conductive traces on the membrane layer.

When the dome is pressed, it makes contact with the conductive traces, closing the circuit and registering the keystroke.

Layers Involved:





Top layer: Printed graphic overlay with labels and symbols.

Spacer layer: Keeps the circuits separated until the dome is pressed.

Bottom layer: Contains printed circuitry for signal transmission.

Less Responsive in Extreme Conditions: Very cold or hot environments can affect the domes’ elasticity.
